Peter + Grace | Engagement Photos

I absolutely love Peter and Grace's story and who better to tell it, than Peter and Grace! I am so excited for their upcoming wedding as these are two people that are clearly in love and headed towards an amazing life together! So excited to be your photographer! Can't wait for the big day!
_______

- How did he propose, were you surprised?

One Wednesday in November, Pete asked if I wanted to try a new sushi restaurant he had found in Georgetown that coming weekend. Though I didn't want to get too excited, I did wonder if he was planning to propose because 1) Sushi has been our thing since our first date 5 years ago in Dallas, and 2) He knows I love Georgetown. So we planned to go out for lunch Saturday and spend the day together.

He picked me up and we headed to lunch at a very cute and quaint little sushi place. He seemed so calm and relaxed which made me think maybe it wasn't the day. After lunch, we got a coffee and headed to the harbor to walk around. It was a bit of a gloomy day and there weren't many people around--a rare treat in Georgetown on a Saturday. We sat on a bench near the water and chatted for a while. Eventually he turned to me with his sweet smile and said, "So what do you want to do?" to which I nonchalantly replied, "I don't know, what do you want to do?" At that, he paused, took a little box out of his pocket, got down on one knee and said  "I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" I, of course, said yes :)

Meanwhile, back at his apartment, he had planned a surprise party with all of our friends to celebrate. It was truly the perfect day.

Peter:
- What was the moment you knew you were in love with her? Where were you, what was she doing?
- What are you most looking forward to about life with her?

I'm not sure it was an exact moment when I realized that I loved her.  It was more of a slow process that culminated in the realization that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this person making her as happy as I could.

- When did you first know you wanted to marry Peter

Pete and I have been together for about 5 years now, so it's difficult to remember the exact moment I knew I wanted to marry him, but I do know it was pretty early on. We started talking Spring semester junior year of college after going out for a mutual friend's birthday. Though we had known each other vaguely before that (we went to a very small school), we had never really had much to do with one another until that night. The connection was immediate, and once I got to know him, it was easy for me to picture myself spending my life with this handsome, goofy guy. It surprised me how quickly I fell for him! He was so much fun to be around and brought out the fun-loving, excited-about-life side in me. He also has a serious knack for calming me down and bringing me back down to earth, which I think is quite a skill! Though I don't remember the exact moment I decided Pete was the one, I do know that from the beginning, I was confident that life was better with him around.

I'm looking forward to the whole experience of it all.  The highs, the lows, the struggles, the kids - everything that comes along with raising a family.  I think of going through all that and having those nights where the two of us get a chance to sit down, share a drink, and know that everything we've sacrificed for each other and our children is absolutely worth the happiness that you receive back from those sacrifices.

Sletten Family | Portraits

If you don't know Matt and Lindsay, they are one of those couples you just want to be around. They are laid back, hospitable, and know how to get people together for a good time. Their spunky 21 month old little girl named Bella has quite the personality and is a girl who knows what she wants. Together they are such a fun-loving family. Photos at this age can sometimes be a challenge as little personalities can make a big difference, but I loved the interactions we got of the three of them and I was reminded how each stage of a child's' life is unique and full of its own victories and challenges. Capturing these milestones as a family, little fingers holding hands, sweet smiles and arm reaches for mom are why I love what I do... cause these days only last so long.

Thank you Sletten Family for letting me be a part of remembering this time in your lives. You guys are blessed with a sweet life! Enjoy!
