Julie and Stephen | Scottsdale Engagement Session

This was such a unique session and we had SO. MUCH. FUN! I mean hello I got to ice skate while working! Who gets to do that?! And for anyone that hasn't got to meet both Julie and Stephen, they are such a blast! Seriously, like I want to be friends and hang out with them they are so inviting, kind and just make you feel like you've known them forever!

So for their engagement shoot Stephen was able to rent out an ice skating rink!! (pretty awesome huh?!) I've only ice skated once before while shooting a hockey team and even though its a bit of a challenge as the movement is a little different,  I actually love the fresh perspective to get fun shots at such a unique location! I'm going to let them tell their story and the significance of the ice to them, so I won't give you any spoilers except to say the rink is where it all started!! From there it was a quick shift in temperature as we headed out to Papago for the second half. Here we used the mountains where Stephen surprised Julie with the million dollar question as a backdrop for their sunset photos! Julie's red dress was so gorgeous and you can just see how comfortable they are with each other. This makes for the perfect setting!
From the chilly ice at the skating rink, to the blazing summer desert, both played such a vital role in this couples story to get them to where they are now,  we just had to do both!

Okaky so, for fear of ruining their story, I'm going to let them finish telling it, cause boy is it a sweet one! Julie and Stephen I cannot wait for your beautiful wedding day. You guys are legit perfect for each other and I'm so happy for you guys!
See you soon!  - Jenn
"Stephen and I first met face to face in February of 2015, however, there is photo evidence that we had actually been within inches of each other in September of 2012!  One of my best friends, Shannon, had known Stephen and his friends forever and her and I ran into them on our way to a tailgate for an ASU football game.  We took a quick photo (attached) and went on our way, not realizing until later that Stephen had photobombed us.  I don't ever remember seeing him or talking to him that day, but when Stephen saw the picture he decided to stalk me on Facebook." - Julie
"When Stephen found out that I loved hockey, he was immediately intrigued, and tried to get Shannon to set us up for about a year and half, to which I continued to say no thanks. However, when Stephen decided to friend-request me on Facebook (although I was convinced we had never met) I accepted, because why not? All I ever saw Stephen post about was hockey, and never thought much of it until the Red Wings were coming into town which was about a year or so later.  Of course, the game was sold out and I NEEDED tickets, so I figured I would awkwardly reach out to him since he seemed to know a lot of people in the hockey world. I thought he would be beyond pumped that I finally contacted him, but after sending the longest most awkward message ever, he simply responded with "How many?" Many more awkward messages were exchanged until Stephen pulled the ultimate move of, "I can only get two tickets..." So we went together, had an amazing time (Red Wings won, obviously) and we had 2 more dates lined up before the week was over. "- Julie

"Our first kiss..... It was the night of our first date after going to the hockey game. I didn't want the night to end so early, so we went out to meet up with what I thought was a few of my friends, but ended up being almost the entire squad, probably a bit overwhelming for Julie. I was eagerly waiting for the right opportunity to "make my move." I finally had a chance to do so at the end of the night, and needless to say, it must have been a good one, because look at us now." - Stephen
"Hockey is a huge part of our lives. I can safely say, if it wasn't for hockey, we probably would not have met. Julie grew up a Detroit Red Wings fan, watching games on TV, and going to games with her family. They still have season tickets and her parents still travel around North America to watch them play. I grew up loving the sport (weird being from Arizona), but I played hockey, grew up working at a hockey shop, taught private lessons, and still play to this day. One thing I am thankful for is to have found a girl that loves the sport as much as I do. It was our first date and we were watching the game and something happened that only someone who truly understands the game would have noticed, and there was Julie, screaming at the top of her lungs about it. At that moment, I knew I found a keeper. The rivalry between the Red Wings and Coyotes will live on with us!"- Stephen
"I realized that I was in love with Stephen pretty quickly.  On our second date we went to play tennis and I'll never forget his smile and laugh from across the court because we were both being so stupid and silly.  I had never been able to feel so like myself and relaxed with someone so quickly.  Within a few weeks Stephen was staying over on the weekends more and more and I remember dreading Sunday nights when he would leave.  I had always really loved living on my own and having my own space, but now I just wanted Stephen there every night.  I can't pinpoint an exact moment but within a few short months I knew I wanted Stephen in my life for a very long time." - Julie

"The one thing I love about Julie the most is her passion. Everything she does, she does 100%. She strives to be great, and will do absolutely everything she can to succeed. I learned this very early on in our relationship, and it is something I admire the most about her." - Stephen

"The thing I am looking forward to the most about our wedding is walking down the aisle with my parents and seeing Stephen waiting for me. I can't wait for that first look between him and I right before we say "I do."  Hopefully I'll have some really good waterproof mascara on because it already makes me emotional just thinking about it.  I just can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him." - Julie

Scottsdale Arizona, Engagement Session, Bob and Dana

Sometimes I wish we had live footage with a camera man following us around on our engagement sessions, it is seriously so much fun and some of the behind the scenes stuff and candid moments are the best!
I love getting to know my couples. My time with Dana and Bob was no different and I love how much they trusted me from the get go. They said they wanted some mountains and desert and they were totally up for a little jaunt up to this point that overlooks most of Tempe. Not only were they up for it, they both still looked amazing when we got to the top! Our time together only makes me even more excited for their wedding day this coming year, these two click in such a unique way, are kind and sincere with each other and have found someone that truly makes them happy. So thrilled to be their photographer!

Much love!
Jenn Wagner
"My favorite thing about Dana is that she can always make me laugh. Even during the middle of a fight, she can still crack me up. When she laughs, her smile lights up a room, so we spend a lot of time trying to get the other to break first and laugh. And despite her protestations to the contrary, I'm definitely the funny one."- Bob
"I think there would be some debate about who initiated the first kiss, but I maintain that it was Bob who made the first move! It was on my birthday, January 14, 2011, when we were on a ski trip with our law school friends. We were in the hot tub and basically all of our friends saw the kiss so definitely memorable haha."- Dana
"I first told Dana I loved her on a ski trip in early 2012. We had our first kiss on the same ski trip a year earlier in the same house, so that trip and that place hold a lot of special memories for us. I believe she said it first, but she always has to nudge me a little bit." - Bob

"I don't know when I knew for sure that I loved him, but it was definitely during our first year of law school. He always made me laugh, and that's what my mom always said made her fall for my dad, so I knew he was a keeper!"- Dana
"I am most looking forward to seeing Dana in her wedding dress for the first time. We have both been trying very hard to keep all details of her dress a secret from me, so I am completely in the dark. I am anxious to finally see her in it to see what all the mystery has been leading up to." - Bob
Oh my gosh how cute are they!!
"As for the wedding, we want the style to be classic and are using mostly neutrals and dusty blue as the accent color.  The main thing we want is for it to be fun, so we have a live band (and an open bar also helps with the fun factor!).  We are just really excited about everything and having all our friends and family there in Arizona!" - Dana

Chris and Elizabeth | Scottsdale Engagement Session

Whatever this couple has, it is it people. It is the kind of movie-like love that makes you just want to applaud the main characters for finding each other, and at the same time seems so inevitable that they had to end up together! Chris and Liz got that comfy, I knew you forever and we just met kind of love and it was so clear as we headed out to the desert for their engagement session. They laughed, they kissed, shoot I didn't even need to tell them what to do half the time! This couple just fits and I am so happy for them both! Chris and Liz, your wedding day will be here before you know it, and I can't wait for the magic to continue!

_____

"I first knew I was in love with Chris on a random Saturday afternoon. We had picked up my nephew from his baseball game in Chris' classic Chevelle. My nephew wanted Chris to go fast and do a burnout, I was not as excited about it. Chris looked over at me and said, "do you trust me?", I knew at that moment I trusted and loved him with my entire being. My heart had known for a long time that I loved him, but that afternoon my head finally caught up." - Liz
"Chris is constantly making jokes! A time that stands out was when we were driving to New Mexico for Chris to pick up a car. I joined in on the drive to keep him company. I just remember him singing loudly to the radio, making up song lyrics and inserting my name into the most random songs. We laughed the entire car ride! He will do just about anything to make me laugh and I love that about him." - Liz

"The thing I love most about her is her laugh. She tolerates my corny jokes,  she gives me pitty laughs most of the time. Its not that the jokes are bad (I'm hilarious, I make myself laugh and not ashamed of it), she just seems to be picky about what gets a laugh. However on certain occasions she lets it all go, and the best part of it is once it gets to a certain point she laughs even harder because of how hard she's laughing. Sometimes I've legitimately been worried that she'll pass out from not being able to breathe. But hearing that genuine joy and happiness from her warms me up inside and reminds me just how much I love her....even if she can't appreciate all my jokes."- Chris
"I wanted to be sure she didn't see it coming, so I picked a day that would be the last one she'd think i would propose on, my birthday. I told her that I wanted to go to a nice dinner with both our families, she thought it was strange but suspected nothing. It was the most nerve wracking dinner I've ever had. My plan was after the main course, the waiter would drop off a card and a rose to "distract" her while I got down on one knee. I still remember the look of pure shock, confusion, joy and probably 10 other emotions on her face at that moment. For the first minute, she couldn't speak and was only capable of nodding yes, until finally she was able to form actual words. She kept saying "but its your birthday" to which I would reply "and I cant think of a better present for myself." - Chris
"Our first kiss was on the night I was celebrating my 24th birthday! It was the second time we had met but I just remember feeling so comfortable with him. Iwas like we had already been dating for awhile. I'm not sure who instigated it (there was alcohol involved) but after our first kiss I knew I only wanted to kiss him from that point on. The next day, my friends said they had never seen me like that with a guy, completely in our own world. They all joke that Chris was the one that finally melted my heart!" - Liz
... and then the sun came out for us mid-session!
"We were just getting ready to go to bed, I knew I had been wanting to say it for awhile but I was hesitant. I knew she felt the same way, but it still did not ease my mind. There was just that lingering "what if...." that no matter how much I told myself that wasn't going to happen, it wouldn't leave. I finally convinced myself to go for it and went in. I said the first two words, no turning back now. I finished the third word followed by what seemed like an eternal silence. Really it was only about  a second later that she replied "I love you too!" - Chris
Umm her ring tho!!!!
I CAN'T EVEN.
They love each other so much and its adorable!
Thank you Liz and Chris! Can't wait for your big day!
